Atupele to hold public discussion on ‘new agenda for Malawi’
Lawmaker Atupele Muluzi, son of former president Bakili Muluzi, says he will hold a public discussion on Thursday September 29 in Blantyre.
The theme of the public discussion is” a new agenda for a better Malawi”, according to the lawmaker who is also deputy leader of United Democratic Front (UDF) in the National Assembly.
"The public discussion will take place at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre and will start at 9:00am," he informed.
Atupele said that he has been receiving calls from members of the UDF asking him to represent the party during the General Elections but said he will make an announcement on his decision later.
"I was born from a family that has been in politics and I used to remember the time when there was a political change from the one party dispensation to multiparty dispensation. As for my future in politics, I am going to come up with a statement in due course,” he told Joy radio station.
He further explained that he is matured enough to become a leader citing United States President Barack Obama as one of the young leaders who are doing very well on the globe.
Atupele's public discussion comes hot on the heels that UDF old guards were scheming to expel him for expressing his interest to vie for the presidency in the 2014 General Elections.
The lawmaker is on record as to have said that the party gurus summoned him with an ill intention of kicking him out of the party because he has been addressing public meetings.
But UDF deputy secretary-general Hophmally Makande said the former governing party has never intended to fire Atupele.
