Just hours after President Bingu Wa Mutharika hired a new cabinet, three notable names in Malawi broadcasting history have been approved ready to be announced as heads for the beleaguered Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), State House sources have revealed.

President Mutharika has passed the name of former diplomat Tony Kandiero as the new Director General of MBC Group while Dr. Benson Tembo founding Director General of Television Malawi as the new Director for MBC-TV Services.

James Chipofya, a retired broadcaster , has been rehired to be Director of MBC Radio Services.

The names are expected to be announced in due course as the Office of President and Cabinet are now finalising the appointment procedures.

This marks the end of a long journey for ambitious Bright Malopa whom his legacy at MBC started on flying colours only to nose-dive due to what obsevers say is  lack of direction and leadership skills.

The development also comes at a time when the High Court has granted current and former employees an injunction against the merger of MBC and Television Malawi (TVM) which  saw hundreds of employees lose their jobs in a downsizing exercise.

Malopa in partnership with Chairperson of the Transition Committee Chimwemwe Banda and Head of News Mzati, according to Maravi Post, axed the most qualified and competent personnel despite appraisals by heads of department.
