Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has launched the replica jerseys for supporters of the senior national team, the Flames.

The jerseys, which are designed in red and green colours, have the watermark logo of FAM embossed on them and bear a unique emblem from Puma at the bottom left-hand side to show its originality.

"The replicas will be selling at K9 000 (about $53.89) each," disclosed FAM president Walter Nyamilandu

"We decided to deliberately introduce the new product at a reasonably lower price so that we maximise sales and intensify the distribution of the replica jerseys that have been on high demand for a long time," Nyamilandu explained.

He said the introduction of the jerseys was also to provide avenue for fans to identify themselves with the Flames.

FAM boss hoped that "substantial gains" will be realised from the sales of the replica jerseys.

Youth Development and Welfare Minister Symon Vuwa-Kaunda called on all Malawians and support groups to patronize the products, which he said had been designed to meet the needs of the ordinary man.

"The Flames is one of the most popular and successful teams in  Africa and deserves great respect and promotion," he said.

Vuwa-Kaunda said the jerseys will help FAM to generate funds for their programmes " thereby reducing total dependence on government.”

Corporate ambassador Hitech Anadkat  tipped FAM to put names of players at the back of the replicas as one  way to generate more and more sales.
