Four people have died in two separate accidents that occurred in Dowa and Ntchisi districts involving a government ambulance and a 30-tonner track on Wednesday.

Police say each accident claimed the life of two people on the spot and so far one body is yet to be identified.

The ambulance, a land cruiser registration number MG 662 AD belonging to Kasungu District Hospital, overturned along the Mponela-Kasungu M1 road after the driver hit a pot hole while overtaking a minibus.

According to Ester Wandale, Mponela Police Officer In-Charge, the cause of the accident was over speeding.

Blood shed in the accidents

"The ambulance was really cruising, it overturned four times killing two people on the spot," she said.

Five other passengers escaped with various degrees of injuries ranging from minor to serious and were rushed to Kasungu District Hospital.

The deceased people were identified as Office Mtambo, a clinical officer at the district hospital and 40-year-old Gift Munthali.

In the Ntchisi accident, police say the track overturned after the driver failed to negotiate a corner at Chalenga River along the Nkhotakota-Kasungu road.

The vehicle, registration number SA 5078 was carrying 600 bales of sugar from Illovo at Dwanga to be delivered in Kasungu.

One of the deceased in the accident was identified as 38-year-old Dorothy Sosola while the other is yet to be identified, according to police.
