I beg to differ !
Of conscious and the truth
"…For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, but powers , against the rulers of darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places…" Ephesians 6 verse 12.
Mathews 21 embraces a story found only in Mathew – or is it? I beg to differ.
The parable of two sons may seem unique, but there are striking similarities to Luke's prodigal son. Yes, the length, detail, context, differ, and Luke includes both dialogue and thought process. Yet the gist and purpose are virtually the same.
One son chooses not to work for his father and rejects the good relationship with him; on the other hand, the other accepts the relationship. In Luke, the first son returns after coming to his senses, and in Mathew's shorter version the son simply changes his mind.
In Luke the second son spoils his relationship through sourness and an unwillingness to receive his brother back. In Mathew the second doesn't come up with the goods – he does nothing in the field.
In my own take both biblical parables the son who changed his mind can be likened to political leaders who generally reject people's wishes and never want to take advice from anybody because they are stubborn.
Now the question I tend to ask about the versions of the parable of the prodigal son in both Mathew and Luke is; were there originally two parables or one? Did Luke embellish or Mathew reshape? Or did Jesus give two lots of similar teaching?
We'll never know. Both evangelists show themselves capable of being faithful to Jesus' message while framing it differently for their own context. Mathew keeps the story sparse and to the point direct while Luke gives in more details. But both versions are correct and truthful.
All in all, Truth and justice is cooked up versions that cannot add up because the actions of the present can determine the decisions of the future.
Just like in Mathew and Luke, the story behind the tragic death of University of Malawi's constituent college, The Polytechnic, Engineering final year student Robert Chasowa has two sides but the difference in the latter is that the versions are dissimilar – which means that one is correct the other one is right.
Eye witnesses say they strongly believe the late Chasowa was murdered as he was found at the campus with his head almost gashed into two.
Robert Chasowa's death according to those who know him well is a clear-cut murder because he was very critical the powers that be and apparently he was being man-hunted by the Police.
It's reported that the Police had earlier come looking for him allegedly for his role in the Anti-government's assemblage, YDF. Chasowa's believes Robert was brutally butchered by the government's agents because according to them the media is only giving out half-baked reports on the deceased.
The family claims Chasowa was stabbed on the back of his head and that he also had a cavernous whole under his chin believing that a screw driver was used in his killing according to Chasowa's grieving sister…posted on Facebook "I've seen it with my own eyes on brother's body before post-mortem…"
Police on the other hand says in brief without clarity that Chasowa killed himself in a suicide. Could there be any befitting reason why a young man who has worked so hard in life through high education and was only months away to qualify as a bonafied engineer to take his life? I beg to differ.
Why were there no splashes of blood and tissues (flesh) I wonder!
In the supposed suicide letter how could Chasowa misspell his own father's name? How come he addressed his father by first name? Can a university final fourth year student write a letter in block or capital letters? I beg to differ.
I only hope that Chasowa did not die in vain and let his death unite Malawians and continue to fight for the things he was advocating – justice.
Was an autopsy done on the body of (Robert) Chasowa? Where is the pathologist report? Suppose he was dead before falling or (thrown) it's obvious that bones would have smashed. Did they? Why was the pool of blood to one side of the body?
It would've been better if Robert had died at God's pleasure and not at any man's disposition. Malawi needs producers of peace and not predators. Chasowa's death has just stirred yet another colony of wild bees.
There's has been nasty incidents happening to as many people seem to be critical to president Bingu wa Mutharika's regime – after all the Mutharika promised publicly to 'smoke' them out. So is Chasowa's death a coincidence? I beg to differ.
Should Jumani Masauko Kamuzu Banda have been deported back to Sweden? I beg to differ.
Jumani all along has been singing praises for president Mutharika all where did it go wrong for him to start despising the Malawian leader? We will never know.
Jumani has a Malawian passport which he allegedly got in 1970 and at that time Malawi never issued passports to children. How did he get it? If it's an issue of dual citizenship, did immigration authorities ask him to denounce one?
Jumani came to Malawi to fight for a paternity battle and prove that he is the late 'original' Ngwazi's blood brood and the case is still in the courts of law so why deport him before he gets his justice?
When did the immigration department know that Jumani had overstayed his visa? Is it after he despised Bingu?
Whatever the correct versions are on the late Chasowa's death and Jumani's deportation, I believe that Conscious is an open wound, and only the truth can heal it.
As I beg to differ please "Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths…" Psalms 25: 4
