Irate ex-girl friend smashes NGO boss car

An irate former girl friend to the executive director of Drug Fight Malawi, Nelson Zakeyu, smashed her boss's car and a computer in Lilongwe after he refused to bow down to her demands that he should give her money to pay for her house rent.

The sensational tabloid, The Weekend Times quoted court records that the two were in a relationship that started last year and the affair resulted in the two having a child. Using his authority, Zakeyu drafted his former lover into the organization by employing her as a project officer and eventually started involving the lady in workshops.

The records show that on July 29, this year, the girl, Clara Zangalama went to the boss's office and demanded that he should giver K7, 000 so that she settles her rental bills. This surprised Zakeyo as the lady had already received her salary on July 26 in addition to the K3, 500 which he had also given her.

Zakeyu: Car smash

However, Zakeyu later received a call from the financial manager, a Mr. Lwaya informing him that his former girlfriend had broken the windows of the organization's car. After doing away with the car, the enraged lady is reported to have stormed the office where she destroyed the computer.

Zakeyu, who founded the organization in 2006, is quoted in the court records that he fails to understand why his former lover had to take such an action because he already supports the child he fathered.

"I don't understand why she broke the car windows because I assist the child," Zakeyu is quoted in the court records.

Lwaya told the court during the hearing some weeks ago that he could not give the K7, 000 because he felt Zangalama had just received her salary.

He told the court that as the two were discussing, the financial manager noted that the lady had a weapon in her hands.

Lwaya further told the court that upon his return, the puzzled Zakeyu brought some policemen to see for themselves the damage that the former girlfriend had caused.

They then followed the girl to her house in Area 36 where she was arrested and she is now on police bail.

The lady told the court that she reacted violently because she was angry with Zakeyu's failure to give her money for rent.

Zakeyu refused to comment on the matter as it is still in court.
