A 36-year-old woman is to answer murder charges in Karonga district after 'accidentally' killing a four-year-old boy during a football match last Sunday.
Karonga Police have confirmed opening murder charges against Roslyn Mlagha after she killed the young boy in the course of her duty.
The boy in the company of her 10-year-old sister had gone to watch a football match between Matema and Kashata Rangers when he met his fate.
Police Spokesperson Enock Livason said Mlagha, who was on the day working as a crowd controller, hit the little boy on the head with the stick as she tried to disperse the thrilled fans that had swarmed the pitch.
The enthusiastic crowd had entered the pitch in celebration of a goal scored by the home team, Kashata Rangers.
The spokesperson said the boy fell on the ground and was rushed to a nearby Atupele Private Clinic where he was pronounced dead and a post-mortem revealed that she died due to serious head injuries.
Mlagha, who is currently being held at Kaporo Police Post, hails from Fashoni village, TA Kilupula in the same district.
