King Mutharika of Mozambique is dead. Mulhako wa Alhomwe has confirmed the death of the king who is believed to be related to President Bingu wa Mutharika.

"Mulhako wa Alhomwe regrets to announce the news of the passing on of King Mutharika of the Republic of Mozambique. You may recall that King Mutharika visited Malawi on several occasions and attended annual festivals of Mulhako Wa alhomwe," a statement from Lhomwe heritage reads.

The statement signed Hastings Maloya, spokesperson of the group, says King Mutharika is one of the Lhomwes who had been instrumental and supportive of the formation of Mulhako wa Alhomwe.

"He had been the pillar of our tribe and association. He will be sadly missed by all of us. May His soul should rest in peace," says the statement.
