Flames coach Kinnah Phiri has picked four local players out of the 26 who were in camp for next week’s friendly against Ethiopia and the decisive Africa cup of Nations qualifier against Chad on 8 October.

The selected players are; goalkeeper Swadick Sanudi, defender Emmanuel Zoya, midfielders Frank Banda and Joseph 'Shakira' Kamwendo.

Kinnah said these are the players who are in his plans for the two games and hopes they will deliver as expected.

“Everyone worked hard during training to impress but I had to pick four who will be joined by the professionals in Addis Ababa,” Kinnah said.

The team is expected to leave the country on Monday for Ethiopia enroute to Chad.

Kinnah: Select four players from domestic squad

On Thursday, the team was challenged by the Malawi National Lottery when the company pledged K1 million again if they beat Chad.

Speaking at the company’s premises, Chief Executive Officer Allen Cheng said their earlier pledge when Malawi hosted Tunisia still stands because National Lottery is committed to seeing the flames qualify for the finals.

“We made a pledge when Malawi played Tunisia that we will give them K1 million if the team wins but since it was a draw, the pledge remains unchanged. This is an incentive to the boys and we hope that they will fight for their country in Chad,” Cheng said.

He also disclosed that the company is still looking at the possibility of a long term partnership with the Flames.

Minister of Youth development and welfare Symon Vuwa Kaunda and FAM president Walter Nyamilandu Manda thanked National Lottery for the support to the national team.

“Last month, they gave the team K500, 000 when they were preparing for the Tunisia game and today they have pledged K1 million again, this is what we expect from the corporate world and we are still hoping that a lot of companies will come in and support the flames,” Kaunda said.

Malawi National Lottery will roll out its operations in December this year.

Malawi only needs to win with any margin in their October 8 must-win in Chad to seal their back-to-back Nations Cup qualification.
