Malawi Queens name squad for Australia

Malawi Queens Coach Edith Kaliati has released an 18-member squad in readiness of next month’s Four National Invitation tournament in Australia.

The team started camp on Monday (26 September 2011) at College of Medicine in Blantyre.

In her squad, Kaliati has also drafted in MTL Queens vast experienced player Sylvia Malenga-Mtetemera.

Other players, who have made it into the squad, are Australian based Mwayi ‘Professor’ Kumwenda, Escom Sisters player Caroline Mtukule-Ngwira.

Bingu Tigresses sharp shooter Sindi 'Sniper' Simutowe and Beatrice Kadango-Mpinganjira have also been recalled.

Kaliati has also drafted in some new faces into the squad like young and upcoming MTL Queens Thandi Magaleta alongside Mzuzu City Queens youngster Maggie Sikwese. The other new face in the squad is Blue Eagles lethal shooter Takondwa Lwazi.

Others that have been called for national team duties are, Grace Mwafulirwa, (Bingu Tigresses), Chikumbutso Banda, Joana Kachilika, (MTL Queens), Khumbidze Chazemba, Joyce Mvula (Blue Eagles), Tina Kamuyambeni Kamzati , Beauty Chirwa, Jane Chimaliro (Civonets), , Towera Vinkhumbo and Bridget Kumwenda (Escom Sisters).

Tigresses duo Florence Chirwa and Ellen Chibokho, who were part of the squad that travelled to Singapore, have been dropped from the team.

The test series, which is scheduled to take place from October 18, will involve top class teams like the hosts Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.

Malawi is ranked sixth in the world.
