Msaka ‘abandoned’ wife when she was sick -relative
A relation of late Primrose Msaka accused her husband, Bright Msaka, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, for abandoning his wife when she was sick in South Africa.
A relations to late Mrs Msaka, born Primrose Longwe, told Nyasa Times on condition of anonymity, saying the family was disappointed that Msaka was told by South African doctors to come and see the wife before she succumbed to death but he did not go.
"He did not see the wife for two months. When he was informed that the wife had days to live and that he should go and be on her death bed, he did not come instead opted to swear-in ministers," said the relative.
The deceased had three children with Msaka. They are Roberta, Kananji and Ndondwa.
Mrs Msaka died on Friday September 9 in a South African hospital where she was referred to for further treatment.
She was laid to rest at Mitondo village in Machinga, marking the end of her long journey of her life that started on September 22, 1965 in her home village in Mzimba.
Speaking on behalf of president Bingu wa Mutharika, who was present during the ceremony alongside his wife, Deputy minister in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Nicholas Dausi explained that government was saddened by the death of Mrs Msaka who he said played a key role in the delivery of service to the government by her husband.
"President Mutharika had been sending the First Lady to cheer her up when she was sick in South Africa. The President even asked the High Commissioner in South Africa, Mrs Aggrina Mussa, to render all the assistance she needed," Dausi said
Nyasa Times made several efforts to speak directly with Msaka, but he did not answer calls.
