Mulhako wa Alhomwe’s fourth anniversary set for Oct 25

Malawi President Bingu wa Mutharika will attend the fourth anniversary celebrations of the Mulhako Wa Alhomwe cultural heritage to be held at its Chonde headquarters in Mulanje on Tuesday, October 25, it has been announced.

A statement from the heritage said Mutharika who is also Patron of the grouping will be in attendance at the event which will have activities such as traditional dances, singing, and drama and poetry recitals.

“Activities lined up are to make this year’s occasion very special and memorable,” the statement said.

The group said patrons including those from the neighbouring countries who have been invited to the event will be served with drinks and a sizzling luncheon.

“We are therefore appealing to all Lhomwes both within and outside Malawi to patronize the event and prepare various traditional dances to spice up the event,” reads the statement.

The main purpose of Mulhako Wa Alhomwe is to revive the cultural values and practices, thus promoting the cultural identity and rediscovering the roots of the Lhomwe people, according to the statement.

"As part of the promotion to the cultural values and practices, this year's Mulhako Wa Alhomwe has organized a competition of all Lhomwe traditional dances and winners will be given various prizes," it said.
