President Bingu wa Mutharika's former special adviser on NGOs Clement Kapote Mwakasungula has been appointed Paramount Chief Kyungu  of the Ngonde tribe in Karonga.

Mwakasungula resigned as special adviser to Mutharika citing personal reasons, which he did not divulge.

Sources told Nyasa Times that Mwakasungula will be officially unveiled during a traditional Nkhonde ceremony to be held on October 10, 2011.

According to sources, his name will only be presented to government after this ceremony.

Mwakasungula replaces the former Paramount Chief (Lucky  Mwanyongo), who died on July 22.

During the 2009 general elections Kapote Mwakasungula contested as MP for Karonga North West on a UDF  ticket but lost.

During the Bakili Muluzi era, Mwakasungula worked as Chief Protocol officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
