Mzuzu woman nearly killed over chicken debt

A Mzuzu based business woman was nearly run over by man who owes her MK3, 500 being a long overdue debt for dressed chickens he took on credit from her in July this year.

The man, Paul Kaunda, an IT Technician at Burco Electronic Systems in Mzuzu, apparently has a penchant for not paying debts.

Burco Electronic Systems has a branch in Mzuzu and rents office space at Mzuzu Hotel.

On Thursday afternoon, Kaunda was cornered by a Mrs Waya, who demanded her money. Mrs Waya had earlier come to Kaunda's office but he evaded her.

"On top of that money (MK3, 500), the money I have also spent on fuel and airtime is amounting to the money owed. So I cannot lose both amounts. Today I just want my money," charged Waya told Kaunda at the Mzuzu Hotel Car park.

But Kaunda who appeared equally embarrassed by the woman's tantrums and the sight of Hotel guests alighting from their cars told the woman that he had no money.

"How many times have you told this excuse and you expect me to listen? Today the language I listen to is money," the women countered.

Waya then stood behind Kaunda's vehicle and told him that she will remain there until she gets her money, saying "I need to send the money to my child who is at a boarding school"

Kaunda, who by then looked exasperated by trying to explain the situation he was in, got into his car and started reversing at high speed but the woman jumped off the car's path.

He then sped away leaving the woman shouting curses.

Waya said she was going to engage the Police to help her get her money.
