The new president of Zambia, Michael Sata, accorded an audience to a representative of Malawi Vice President Joyce Banda's People's Party at his private residence in Lusaka on Friday evening, Nyasa Times understands.

PP spokesman Stephen Mwenye confirmed when interviewed that the party's representative Paul Maulidi had an audience with President Sata.

He said Maulidi, who is the party's director of legal affairs, delivered a message of congratulations from the state vice president Banda and that of the People's Party on Sata's historic election as the fourth president in the democratic Zambia.

"More details of what transpired during the audience would be made public once Maulidi officially reports to Banda and the PP national executive committee soon," Mwenye concluded.

Meanwhile, Sata, the first elected Catholic head of state in Zambia and a devout believer, says his government will be governed by the Biblical 10 Commandments.

“This government will be governed on the 10 Commandments. Thou shall not steal, do unto others as you would like them to do unto you,” Sata told parishioners at a church in Lusaka’s upscale Rhodes Park district.

He was sworn in Friday, three days after winning the presidential election over incumbent Rupiah Banda.
