Pumulani named Malawi’s leading hotel at World Travel Awards

Pumulani Luxury Beach Lodge is Malawi's leading hotel 2011, according to votes by global experts in tourism and hospitality at this year's World Travel Awards ceremony, held in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt, according to a statement made available to Nyasa Times by Robin Pope safari.

Described by the Wall Street Journal as the "Oscars of Travel and Tourism," the World Travel Awards serves to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the global travel, tourism and hospitality industry with 180,000 industry professionals from around the world participate in the voting process.

"This year, a phenomenal 213,000 industry professionals participated in the voting process, which is scrupulously monitored and independently audited,"  said the statement by Robin Pope Safari one of the finest safari companies in Africa which runs Pumulani.

Named after the native word for "rest well", Pumulani, which is within Lake Malawi National Park, is made up of 10 large villas, each with a private balcony.

"Facing the lake with panoramic windows, the villas provide the ultimate setting for peaceful and relaxing vacations," Robin Pope said in the statement

The statement said at Pumulani, guests can either sit back and relax or go for sailing, diving, wakeboarding, snorkelling and fishing. Now, just in case these activities are not what you think in terms of relaxation.

Pumulani also has  attracts guests with a sunset cruise aboard the resort's 12 meter dhow, spotting the rare and colourful fish that thrives there which the resort says is  the perfect way to experience the beauty of Lake Malawi .
