Minister of Lands, Yunnus Mussa has been implicated in the brutal assault of Lawrence Denizio Bisika by regime thugs in Zomba city on Wednesday, after it has been revealed that the assailants used a vehicle assigned to him.

Bisika was one of the main organisers of Wednesday's historic work stoppage, when most of the country's labour force downed tools to force President Bingu wa Mutharika to address political and economic ills besetting Malawi.

The Toyota vehicle which the thugs used has been identified as ZA 9622 belonging to Malawi government and has dual registration number MG 881 A, Road Traffic Directorate confirmed.

Mussa: Terror campaign

Driver of the vehicle told a local radio that he indeed drove some people to Ndindeya Motel where Bisika was assaulted.

He said one of the people he took in the vehicle was the personal assistant to Lands minister.

"All I did was drive the vehicle there, park it under a tree and sit back watching," the driver identified as Isaac was quoted by Zodiak radio as saying.

The vehicle was reportedly handed on request to Lands Minister Mussa's private driver on September 21 by a government driver.

Mussa, Zomba central constituency member of parliament, denied that the attack was by regime thugs.

The minister, who is also ruling DPP second vice president, could not take further questions when Nyasa Times contacted him.

Zomba Police Spokesperson Thomeck Nyaude who confirmed the assault, and promised thorough investigations, said the police are still investigating.

There has been a terror campaign be the regime that has resulted in the beating of the newly-registered People's Party (PP) member Pascal Nkuta and torching of buildings belonging to two civil society leaders and an opposition politician.

A vehicle belonging to a private radio station, Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) was also torched in the capital city, Lilongwe.
