For window treatments, a simple but fairly good-looking method is a chunk of fabric over a curtain rod. Nothing fancy, but beats the heck out of butcher paper!
Any way you could serialise the book via your blog here? Release a chapter every two weeks or so, then check the readership after a couple months. Take those stats to a publisher with the idea that, without PR, you get X readers, so with PR and a publisher, you should get 10x, or 100x, or whatever.
Whatever happens, good luck with settling in, and here’s hoping a publisher realises what a catch you are! ;)
