A surprising number of business owners who run blogs on their web sites do not update them on a regular basis due to lack of time, lack of focus, or other reasons. But adding fresh content on a regular basis is what gets readers returning to your website for more. Best of all, putting good content that people crave for will invite even more people to visit your blog, hence increasing both traffic and sales.
So how do you come up with blog posts? Well, just think of what your readers want to read.
Most people who scour the Internet are really searching for two things: a solution to their problem, or information on a topic that interests them.
For business owners and marketing managers, I always recommend posting solutions to common problems. So just think-in your industry, what are some common, reoccurring, or new problems that your readers may face on a regular basis?
Here’s an example.
Let’s say you are a graphic designer. Now, begin thinking of problems that your clients have to deal with.
One possible problem may be: How to select the right color tones for a new website. Another problem could be: Where to place the customer contact form?
Once you compile a list of possible problems, you can use the items on your list as blogging topics and offer tips and suggestions to help your readers solve the targeted problem in each post.
This way, you offer valuable content while giving your readers a reason to come back, and you also demonstrate your expertise.
You can also take the approach of discussing topics of interest to your readers. To do this, begin reading and researching the changing trends of your industry. Find out what changes might have a real impact on your readers, then come up with a list of topics to talk about.
In your blog posts, discuss the change, mention how it may impact the industry, then offer tips and advice on how your readers can prepare for these changes, or how they can take advantage of them.
This will help you become recognized as a leader in your industry, which makes you an authority on your topics. Not only will your readers thank you for the information, they might write to you for help or inquire into your services on how you can help them with the problems facing their own businesses.
