Mussa stuns Lilongwe with 15-car convoy, siren

Ruling DPP second vice president Yunus Mussa stunned residents in the capital city Lilongwe when he used a 15-car convoy accompanied by a siren as he visited some parts of the city during the World Habitat Day commemorations.

Mussa,  who is also Minister of Lands, Housing and Development , visited Area 24 dumping site popularly called Kuntaya,  squatter township Ntandile and Area 49 as part of the activities lined up to mark day.

The convoy that had two police siren vehicles with armed-to-teeth security officers and others wearing dark suits and glasses. Another one at the end caused panic among some road users as the minister travelled from Six Miles roadblock to Ntandile via the Kamas central hospital to Mchinji round about.

Mussa: Powerful

While at Ntandile, Mussa asked the media not to focus on his presidential-like motorcade but rather report on the event.

“I have noticed that you members of the media are very much interested in my convoy and I know you might want to report on this, please report on climate change manure and development issues,” Mussa said.

However, Mussa continued with his presidential drive up to Capital Hotel where main event to commemorate the day took place.

This comes barely a few days after government spokesperson who is also information minister Patricia Kaliati told a news conference in Lilongwe that it is only the Head of State who is entitled to have a motorcade accompanied by a siren.

But Foreign Minister  Peter Mutharika, who is the president's younger brother and DPP presidential candidate, was welcomed by an eight car convoy on his return from New York   was welcomed by an eight car convoy and hordes of  security men in dark suits and dark glasses .

He had gone to United State to represent President Bingu wa Mutharika at the United Nations General Assembly.
