Tembo won’t challenge injunction on Daza

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president John Tembo is not challenging an injunction granted by Lilongwe High Court to Chris Daza, the expelled secretary  general to be reinstated to his position and reclaim party membership.

High Court judge Chifundo Kachale grated the injunction last Friday ordering Tembo and the party's National Executive Council]to recognise Chris Daza as the secretary general and to allow him exercise his duties as such.

Lawyer representing Tembo, Wapona Kita, confirmed that the MCP leader would not be challenging the injunction and said he said the matter will get resolved through "a political solution."

The MCP expelled Daza on September 14 for what it said disregarding the "four corner stones" of the party – Unity, loyalty, obedience and discipline.

MCP also accused him of rolling a campaign for the presidency thereby undermining the leadership of Tembo.

He said Tembo is barred by article 36 of MCP constitution to have a third run for the presidency.

Daza stressed that the 78-year-old veteran politician is barred by the party constitution to contest for the presidency under the MCP ticket for the consecutive third time.

"The constitution does not allow him to run. The constitution of Malawi Congress Party is very clear in black and white. It only allows you to contest for two terms," said Daza

Tembo hinted recently that he does not harbour plans to retire soon.
