Comment on A Bad Writer and the Words You’re Looking For by John Erickson

I, too, have to admit to writing “off the cuff”, as it were. The biggest problem I have is my characters developing identities I never intended. I had one character, meant to be the “boy wonder” sidekick to a main character, suddenly develop an independent streak and an attitude! Not sure where he got it, but it works!
Ya gotta do what works for you. If following a certain set number of points always produced excellent results, we’d be hip-deep in Hemmingways. Have you ever tried to wash Hemmingways outta your clothes? Mess-SY! Even worse, try to clean ‘em outta the treads of your boots…….
